NDP Chairman Tanikwu Ngang Champions Women’s Empowerment On International Women’s Day in Bamenda
The National Democratic Party (NDP) Chairman Tanikwu Cornelius Ngang took center stage at Bamenda’s triumphant International Women’s Day march on Sunday, March 8, 2026, championing women’s empowerment as the cornerstone of national progress during the 41st edition of the global celebration. Flanked by enthusiastic NDP members who had recently launched the party, Ngang joined hundreds of women marching through the streets, their placards and chants echoing calls for equality, resilience, and peace amid the city’s remarkable recovery.
In his address, Ngang painted an optimistic picture of Bamenda’s revival, declaring that “normalcy is gradually returning” to the once-troubled hub of the Northwest Region. This affirmation served as a beacon of hope for residents still healing from years of the Anglophone crisis. Yet, his message carried a bold political edge: a direct appeal to Head of State President Paul Biya to decisively end the protracted conflict in both the Northwest and Southwest regions. “It’s time for lasting peace so our women our mothers, wives, and daughters can thrive without fear,” Ngang emphasized, linking women’s advancement to broader national stability.

Women from all walks of life, including educators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, led the march, donning purple attire symbolic of the global Women’s Day movement. Ngang reiterated the party’s manifesto pledge: prioritizing women’s education, economic inclusion, and leadership roles. “We’re here to encourage and empower them,” he said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
