University of Bamenda: New Modern Biotech Lab in NAHPI Goes Functional
By Kimbi Lionel The University of Bamenda’s National Higher Polytechnic Institute (NAHPI) has taken a major leap forward in scientific capacity with the new modern biotechnology laboratory now fully functional on campus. The facility, funded by the Government of Cameroon, is expected to transform practical training, retain research talent in the North‑West Region and provide technical support to local industries. Partial view of the new modern Biotech Lab Until the lab became operational, many UBa students and researchers routinely traveled to Dschang, Bafoussam or Buea to access specialized equipment for molecular biology, food testing and environmental analyses. That strain on time and resources is now eased: the laboratory can host up to 25 students at once and is fitted with high‑precision instruments several costing around 75 million CFA francs each that enable advanced molecular and cellular assays, microbial testing and product development work.
