The mayor of Tubah council in Mezam division Mr Tanjong Martin, in an interview granted to the press, says Bamenda varsity has filed a report to his boss, the president of Mezam land commissions and SDO for Mezam accusing him of constructing sheds inside the university and disturbing students from studying. The 34 shed market is directly opposite the bambili market.

According to the lord mayor, one of the authorities in the university revealed that, the university is fighting to get all the land because Tubah alone governized all the university that will have been shared to so many places.

To the lord mayor, the council from the gutter of a 7 metre operation space is made for public utility. He quoted instances where the council sheds are built directly on the gutter of the road in makenene, commercial avenue and up station in Bamenda.

"It is the responsibility of the council to create markets for the population, to make life easy for his citizens, to create parks and recreational centers. All these things are not going to be hanging on air but on land", said the lord mayor.

The lord mayor discloses council support to the university, says when the university took its rise in 2014, they were crisis of classrooms and space which he put in 94 million CFA local council money to renovate 4 big classrooms sponsored by Tubah council for students to start effective lectures.

He added that the classrooms of Ccast bambil, the space where the university field is located was negotiated by the mayor of Tubah, when water crisis started, he went and blocked one bambili water tank to supply water to the university but yet the university is not satisfied with the Tubah council support.

The Director of Development, Physical Plant and Infrastructure of the university, prof Fogwe Zephania Nji speaking for the university, says the parcel of land, the 34-shed market are being constructed on belongs to the university of Bemenda. He added that the tubah council is trying to put on market sheds on land that is duly consider university land and recognized by ministry of higher education.

"The mayor of Tubah knows very well that the land is university land because the mayor was invited on October 9, 2020 to the validation of the university strategic development plan", he said.
To the director, the market shed he is putting on has actually block what they previewed to be the access road to this school and faculty complex. "We are projecting that a concrete fence is going to run on south-western boundary of the university and these building be will be a hindrance to the fence", he said.

The director thinks the mayor would have invited the university before embarking on the said project.
According to the lord mayor, Tubah council is not going to be a hindrance to the growth of the university. "I am appealing that if the SDO can remove the sheds from here, I will have no problem but let the ring road and Bambili market which is giving more sound and noise should be removed, so that the university can run smoothly", he said.

It is yet to be judgmental as the Vice-chancellor could not be reached to give her own part of the story regarding the interview granted to the press by the mayor of Tubah council. It remains unclear to accept the council support to the university.
